How to answer “Tell me about yourself” ?

    It’s very important for everyone to succeed in job interview to get the job.  When it comes to language used in interview almost all the time it is English. And nowadays most of the interview questions are in English language. Hence, it’s more important to get command over English language.

    

    While interviewing some basic questions are easy to answer with practicing them but when it comes to explanation it is difficult. When you want to express your opinion in English it’s very important that you have great command over English Language.

       Let’s see some common interview questions. Most common one is “Tell me about yourself ”. If you have practiced it already it’s easy for you to answer but when you have not then it’s difficult.

    Don’t worry, it has a solution. You can answer it with very simple English, there is no need to use advanced English. Because you are talking about yourself. First greet the interviewer. Then tell your full name, then your city/village, then your education, after telling about your education you can add your experience (if you have), then your family, then your hobbies and then your aim.  Following sentence structures may help you to answer the question “Tell me about yourself ”.

Good morning / Good afternoon/ Good evening

I am ______(name)___________. / My name is ______(name_)__________.

I am from ______(City/village)___________.

I have completed ______(Degree)_______ from ____(university name)_____________.

I have ___ members in my family.

Reading & writing are my hobbies.

    When interviewer asks “Tell me about yourself ” ,  He/she is interested only basic but important information about yourself, this much information is sufficient to introduce yourself to the interviewers.

1. Question: What’s your name?

Answers: My name is ……………/ I’m ………………

2. Question: Where are you from?/ Where do you come from? Where were you born?

Answers:  I’m from …………./ I hail from ……………/ I come from ……………/ My hometown is……… …/ I’m originally from ………….… (country)/ I’m ……………… (nationality)/ I was born in ……………….

3. Question: Where do you live?/ What’s your address?

Answers : I live in ……….… / My address is …………… (Full address) ./ I grew up in ………………(city/village)

4. Question: How old are you?

Answers: I’m ………. years old. / I’m …………(age)/ I’m almost/ nearly …………(age)

5. Questions: How many people are there in your family?

6. Questions: Who do you live with?/ With whom do you live?

Answers: I live with my ……………..

7. Questions: Do you have any sibling?

Answers:  I am the only child./  I don’t have any siblings./ I have ……. brothers and ……. (number) sisters.

8. Questions: What is your date of birth?/ When is your birthday?

Answers: My birthday is on ………………….

9. Questions:  What’s your hobby?/ What do you like?/ What do you like to do?

Answers:  I like/ love/ enjoy/ …………….. (sports/ book/……….…/)/ I am interested in ……………../I am good at ……………./ My hobbies are …………….…/ My hobby is ……………

These are some questions and their answers with structures you can use while interview. Sometimes interviewer may be interested to know more about yourself. Then you have to answer them accordingly with brief information. 

When answering question “Tell me about yourself ” try to keep it 1 -2 minutes.
